Term 3 and 4 2022 - 2023 Moon Landing

In Term 3 and 4, Robins have been learning all about the significant event of 'The Moon Landing' and why Neil Armstrong was so important.  We have read some very interesting class texts; 'Man on the Moon: a day in the life of Bob' by Simon Bartram and 'The Iron Man' by Ted Hughes.  Some of the children even made excellent tin foil Iron Giants for home learning.  At the end of the unit the children were very excited to watch the film based on Ted Hughes 'The Iron Giant' for their very well deserved whole class reward.  In DT we learnt how to sew and make a bag like the one Neil Armstrong used to carry the very expensive 'moon dust' back from the moon in.  The children brought in equally special items to go inside their bags.  In Art we used different softness of art pencil to show the craters on the moon.  We also learnt about Barbara Hepworth the sculptor, carving our own sculptures out of soap!  In our dance lessons we created a whole class dance to Hans Zimmer's 'No Time for Caution' where we created a rocket shape using all of our bodies.  The children then peeled off into groups to perform movements in response to the music and our re-enactment of travelling to the moon and being left behind!  Our trips this term included The Science Observatory in Herstmonceux to learn about the space station and find out about the amazing telescopes.  They also had a planetarium visit the school, where Robins really impressed the speaker with all their amazing knowledge and enthusiasm!

What an OUT OF THIS WORLD topic we have had this term! Have a look at it all in our photos below!
